Jasper County law enforcement spent much of their Saturday involved in an armed standoff. Around 10:20am Saturday (1/25), the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office was called about a domestic dispute involving a firearm on South Montgomery Street in Colfax. Family members were able to leave the home, but one man remained and he supposedly had a firearm. Attempts to contact the main were not successful. After several hours with no contact or cooperation from the subject, law enforcement used what they call “less lethal munitions” to get the suspect out. He was taken into custody and a taser was used to make the arrest. 55-year-old Paul Deaton of Colfax was charged with domestic assault with a weapon, first degree harassment and interference with official acts. Deaton’s bond was set at $2000.
