William Penn high jumper Tristen Elmore has clinched a spot in the NAIA national indoor track meet. He won the high jump at Saturday’s (1/18) Central Dutch Athletics Classic in Pella with a leap of 6 feet, 9 inches. That reaches the standard for the men’s high jump. The Statesmen’s Sage Ehresman won the shot put Saturday with a throw of 50 feet, four and a half inches. On the women’s side, Shelbie Williams of William Penn won the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, ten inches…and the Statesmen’s 4 by 400 meter relay team also finished first. Both the Statesmen men’s and women’s teams finished in sixth place out of eleven teams.
And one other note from Saturday’s indoor track meet in Pella: Former Oskaloosa High runner Lauren Coon was sixth in the women’s mile. Coon is a freshman at Central.
