Make it ten straight wins for the William Penn men’s basketball team. The third-ranked Statesmen defeated Central Methodist 81-75 Wednesday night (1/15) in Fayette, Missouri. The Statesmen had their struggles….trailing 19-4 early in the game and they were down by three at halftime. But the Statesmen battled back in the second half for the victory. Dexter Hood had 19 points for the Statesmen, who are now 16-1 overall and 10-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
William Penn’s women also scored a big victory Wednesday, beating eighth ranked Central Methodist 62-60 in overtime. The Statesmen women trailed by seven at halftime and were down eight early in the fourth quarter until they went on an 11-0 run and eventually the game went to overtime. Brenda Pennington’s three pointer with one-point-six seconds to play gave the Statesmen the lead and the win. Pennington had 18 points and six assists as the Statesmen women are now 12-4 overall and 8-3 in the Conference. The Statesmen basketball teams are off until Saturday (1/18), when they play at Mount Mercy.
