The Band will release the 50th-anniversary reissue of their second, self-titled album on November 15.
The album will include the live cover of the Four Tops’ “Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever” from The Band’s performance at Woodstock in 1969.
The Band lead guitarist Robbie Robertson’s memories flew back half a century while speaking to Billboard about the song.
“We played on the final night, and it had just gotten dark out and it was the perfect time to play, but we kinda thought, ‘I dunno if we fit in here.’ The audience was in ecstasy of their experience and the music and the mud and the partying and going crazy, and there’s people jumping up and down, screaming,” Robertson told Billboard.
He recalled the cold shouldered response that the Band received from their neighbors in the town of Woodstock after the performance.
