Lynyrd Skynyrd’s founding bassist Larry Junstrom died at the age of 70.
Junstrom was also the longtime bassist of .38 Special. After joining the band in 1976, he was associated with them for 38 years.
.38 Special broke the news on its Facebook page.
In a message posted under his photo, the band paid homage to Junstrom, saying, “The Big Man on the Big Bass has left us”.
“He rocked arenas all over the world and succeeded in living his dream. He was truly one of a kind, a congenial traveling companion and a great friend to all with a humorous slant on life that always kept our spirits high – a kind man with a big heart for everyone who crossed his path. There will never be another like him.”
The band offered condolences to Junstrom’s wife Thania and his family.
Lynyrd Skynyrd also paid tribute to Junstrom, tweeting, “Rest Easy, LJ, you will always be remembered as the big man, on the big bass with the even bigger heart.”
