The Oskaloosa Girls’ Tennis team was in action Tuesday night against South Tama on the road, and the Indians pulled out a 7-2 win to move to 2-0 on the season.
Osky was without #1 player Mary Yarkosky, but it did not deter the Indians, as they won 5 of the 6 singles matches and 2 of the 3 doubles contests.
Brooke Caves won 10-2 at #2 singles, while Shelby Briggs won at #3 by a score of 10-4 and Saydee Smith won comfortably at #4 singles, 10-3. Kaity Richmond (10-6) and Jori VandenBerg (10-7) also stepped up and got wins and #5 and #6 singles respectively.
Macy Scharff slid into the #1 spot and fell by a close margin against Natalie Stadler of South Tama, 10-8.
In doubles, Smith and Caves got the win at #1 doubles, 10-6. The #3 doubles team of Josie Bunnell and Kenadi Jones also got a 10-6 win. Scharff and VandenBerg fell in a tiebreak in #2 doubles, 11-10 (5).
Oskaloosa had 11 doubles teams in action in for JV as well, falling 8-3. The #1 team of Allison Chapman and Katie Doll won 4-3, the #3 team of Mallory Lanphier and Paige Watters got a 5-2 win, and the #8 team of Olivia Morrison and Emily Lumsden got a 5-2 win as well.
Oskaloosa will travel to Newton next Tuesday for their first Little Hawkeye Conference matchup of the season against the Cardinals. Play will be held at the Aurora Heights Tennis Courts and will be begin at 4:15.
