Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra will be releasing From Out of Nowhere, their first new album in four years, on November 1, via Columbia Records. Lynne also released the title track of the upcoming album.
The 10-track album, previewed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, will be the second to be released under the moniker “Jeff Lynne’s ELO,” after 2015’s Alone in the Universe.
“Let me go, let me fly to a place that I love. Let me fly away and start anew,” Lynne sings accompanied by a jangling, descending guitar progression and steady, choppy drums.
Speaking about the album, Lynne said, “From Out of Nowhere — that’s exactly where it came from. That’s the first one I wrote for this album, and it’s kind of like that.”
He noted that he was aiming to spread optimism with both the song and album, saying, “Everybody’s got to have a bit of hope.”
According to a release announcing the album, “Lynne plays nearly every note of the music on guitars, bass, piano, drums, keyboards and vibes, as well as singing all of the lead and layered harmony vocals.”
The band recently concluded a 20-date North American tour, the first since their U.S. tour in 1981.
