The Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde’s new covers album Valve Bone Woe continued its reign over Billboard’s Jazz Album Chart for the second week.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer released the new LP Valve Bone Woe, featuring a variety of jazz-influenced cover songs, on September 6. Hynde collaborated with award-winning producers and film score composers Marius de Vries and Eldad Guetta and recorded with the Valve Bone Woe Ensemble.
Valve Bone Woe features 14 songs, including versions of songs written and/or recorded by The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, The Kinks’ Ray Davies, Frank Sinatra, Hoagy Carmichael, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Nick Drake and Rodgers & Hammerstein.
Hynde says: “I’m not hugely interested in branching out into other musical genres, being a devout rock singer and such, but jazz is something I grew up around (thanks to my bro) and I’ve always had a soft spot for it,”
She added, “I often bemoan what I regard as a decline in melody in popular music and I wanted to sing melodies.”
