John Fogerty has become the first artist to pull out from the troubled Woodstock 50 festival.
Fogerty’s decision comes after Woodstock 50 organizers announced plans to hold the festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland instead of the originally scheduled site in New York.
“John Fogerty knows where he will be for the anniversary weekend of Woodstock,” his team said in a statement. “At only one site… at the original one – the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.”
According to reports, Woodstock 50 has subsequently released all artists from their contracts after announcing the move to Maryland.
The former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman was one of the few artists who was set to perform at both Bethel Woods and at the huge Woodstock 50 festival produced by Michael Lang.
A change in venue allows artists to legally back out of the event since the contract specifically states the event will take place at the venue.
