Paul McCartney surprised his fans during the final stop of his Freshen Up World tour at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium on Saturday night, reuniting with his former Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr.
After finishing his first number, “Birthday,” McCartney announced, “We’ve got a surprise for us, a surprise for you, a surprise for everyone: Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only, Ringo Starr.”
The two then performed “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “Helter Skelter,” with Ringo manning the drums.
After singing the line, “We’d like to thank you once again,” in “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” McCartney turned towards Starr and threw in a spoken “thank you.”
“No, thank you, Paul. It’s been a thrill for me, and I’ve had a lovely night, and it’s a great show, and I love you, man,” said Starr, who got on to the stage again later for a hug.
“And I love you, man,” McCartney said, and added Ringo’s catchphrase: “Peace and love, Ringo — forever.”
The concert also saw a surprise appearance by Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, who emerged on the stage midway through the Abbey Road classic “The End.”
