The Oskaloosa High softball team is one win away from the state tournament. The 14th ranked Indians defeated 13th ranked Norwalk 4-1 Saturday night (7/13) in Norwalk to reach the Class 4A Region 1 title game. The Indians opened the scoring with a run in the first inning and then added two more in the third on a Maddie Haines double with two out. Oskaloosa Coach Jay Harms said that was a crucial hit.
“I think that was huge…Maddie getting that hit, that really got us going and gave us a little cushion. And then we battled out of some situations…made some great catches. Maleah (Walker) saved us in center field. Only an eighth grader, she’s just got better and better playing in the field. And then Sophia Dykstra (with) another tremendous catch in right field at crucial time in the bottom of the seventh.”
Norwalk got on the board with a run in their half of the third…and Oskaloosa added an insurance run in the seventh to make the final score 4-1. The Indians improve to 24-14 on the year and will face second-ranked ADM for the Region 1 championship. That region title game is Tuesday night (7/16) in Adel. You can hear it on KMZN AM and FM with the first pitch set for 7:00.
