The Oskaloosa Indians softball team isn’t having a long holiday weekend. The Indians are taking part in the 32nd annual Rick Doran Classic Friday and Saturday (7/5 & 6) at the University of Iowa softball complex. Oskaloosa plays Charles City at 1pm Friday, followed by a 4:30 game against Waterloo East. Then on Saturday, the Indians take on Davenport West at 9am, followed by a matchup with Pleasant Valley at 12:30pm.
Newton is also playing at the Rick Doran Classic. The Cardinals play Muscatine Friday at 2:45pm and Iowa City West at 6:15pm.
Also in high school softball Friday, Ottumwa is hosting Albia, Centerville, Solon, Fairfield and Southeast Polk at an invitational at Huston Field. Pella hosts Pella Christian in a doubleheader, Wayne at North Mahaska, Knoxville hosts Bondurant-Farrar, Baxter at PCM, Pekin at Moulton-Udell and Twin Cedars at Davis County.
Friday’s high school baseball schedule starts with KMZN’s Game of the Week, with EBF hosting Mount Pleasant. KMZN’s live coverage starts at 6:45pm with Erick Zamora’s play-by-play at 7pm. Other high school baseball on Friday: Cardinal at North Mahaska, Pella Christian at Pella for a doubleheader, Dallas Center-Grimes at Newton, Knoxville at Forest City, Lynnville-Sully at Moravia and Pekin at Moulton-Udell.
