Walt Disney has announced The Lion King soundtrack will feature a new song from Elton John.
The Lion King, the live action remake of the 1994 Disney animated classic directed by Jon Favreau, is set to be released on July 11.
Disney revealed that the soundtrack will include a brand-new song from Elton John and Tim Rice, titled “Never Too Late,” as well as a score composed by Hans Zimmer.
“Just hearing that music strikes you deeply,” Favreau said in a statement. “Even if you don’t know the film or stage show, there is a spiritual strength in it.
He added, “But if you know the film, and if you grew up with this music — now it can suddenly and immediately evoke the story itself, as well as all the connected memories and emotions that you have from your own past experience with The Lion King.”
Last week, Disney teased Beyoncé and Donald Glover’s cover of John’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” in a new teaser for The Lion King. Beyoncé voices Nala, while Glover stars in the film as Simba.
