Rock legend Alice Cooper moved quickly to clarify recent remarks he made in an interview the Mirror suggesting he has a “death pact” with wife Sheryl Goddard.
“We’ve made a pact – there is no way of surviving without each other,” Cooper said in the interview. “I couldn’t live without her. We always said there will never be a time when one of us will be mourning the other. Whenever it does happen, we are going to go together.”
The comments raised concerns among some fans about a potential suicide pact between the couple, who have been married for 43 years.
However, Cooper subsequently released a statement clarifying his remarks and denying that he has a “death pact” with his wife.
“Sheryl and I do NOT have a death pact, we have a LIFE pact. We love life so much,” Cooper said. “What I was meaning was that because we’re almost always together, at home and on the road, that if something did happen to either of us, we’d most likely be together at the time.”
“But neither of us has a suicide pact. We have a life pact,” the 71-year-old rocker added. “And, besides, I’m booked through 2028, so…”
The couple were married on March 20, 1976, in Acapulco. The couple have three children. Their daughter Calico was born in 1981, with a son Dash arriving in 1985 and another daughter, Sonora, came in 1993. In late 2014, they became grandparents when Dash’s wife gave birth to twins, who were named Riot and Falcon. Calico, who has danced in her father’s stage show, was married in October 2015.
Last Friday, Cooper’s supergroup The Hollywood Vampires, which also features Joe Perry and Johnny Depp, released their second album Rise.
