Monday (6/24) was a rough night for Oskaloosa’s softball team, as they were swept by Newton in a doubleheader in Oskaloosa. The Cardinals won the opener 4-0 as Peyton Maher pitched a three-hit shutout with ten strikeouts. Game two was something of a roller coaster as Oskaloosa jumped to an 8-1 lead after four innings….only to see Newton rally for eleven runs in the fifth inning on their way to a 14-8 win. Peyton Maher got the win in relief and also had three hits and four runs batted in for Newton. Abby Braundmeier and Maddie Haines both drove in two runs for Oskaloosa. The Indians are now 6-9 in the Little Hawkeye Conference softball race and 15-11 overall. Tuesday night (6/25), Oskaloosa plays at EBF.
