Oskaloosa’s softball team won both their games at Saturday’s (6-1)Oskaloosa Classic. The Indians started the day with a 7-2 win over Chariton and finished with a 4-0 victory over West Burlington Notre Dame. Hayle Hacker pitched a complete game four-hitter in the victory over Chariton, while Faith DeRonde had a two-hit shutout in the nightcap. Indians Coach Jay Harms likes having two quality starting pitchers.
“We feel really good about our 1-2’s. It’s nice to have and hopefully they’ll continue to throw the ball well.”
Offensively for Oskaloosa, second baseman Taylor Wills had five hits in the doubleheader and scored three times. The Indians are off Monday; they’ll host a doubleheader against Washington Tuesday (6/4).
Also at the Oskaloosa Classic, EBF won both of their games as the Rockets defeated Pella and Norwalk—a pair of higher division schools—both by shutout. 8-0 over Pella and 3-0 over Norwalk. Knoxville also won twice, beating Pella Christian and Newton. Ottumwa was another double winner, beating Iowa City Liberty and Mount Vernon. Albia split their games, beating Iowa City Liberty and losing to Newton. North Mahaska defeated Williamsburg, but lost to Norwalk.
