Meat Loaf reportedly took a nasty fall off a stage in Texas over the weekend and suffered a broken collarbone.
According to TMZ, the 71-year-old rock star was holding a Q&A session at the 2019 Texas Frightmare Weekend when he took a fall due to loose wires.
In videos from the event, Meat Loaf seemed to lose his balance, then drop with an expression of pure terror. He tried to regain his balance but eventually fell sideways and completely off the back of the stage, through a curtain.
He was taken to a nearby hospital and kept overnight, where he was treated for a broken collarbone. According to eyewitnesses, Meat Loaf thanked fans before he was taken to hospital.
The singer has had serious health issues during past performances. He collapsed in 2003 as well as in 2011 and 2016.
The organizers of the Frightmare Weekend issued a statement noting that they will issue refunds to people who paid for a photo opportunity with the singer.
“As everyone knows, Meat Loaf fell today,” the statement said. “We wanted to keep you updated as soon as we knew something. We just found out that the hospital is keeping him overnight for observation. He will not be able to return on Sunday, but he has already confirmed that he will be back in 2020! He’s a trooper and we are praying a speedy recovery!”
