The Oskaloosa Indians cross country teams were in action Thursday in the state qualifying meet in Grinnell.
Head Coach Mike Comfort said that his teams had a great outing, with everyone setting personal bests, and that resulted in three Indians qualifying for the state meet on October 31st.
On the boys’ side, Austin Scholes made the cut, finishing in 13th place with a time of 17:04. The boys finished in 5th as a team in the very difficult field, which Comfort says was the toughest in the state. The top three teams qualify as a group.
On the girls’ side, the team finished in 6th place, and Lauren Coon and Sienna DeJong finished ten seconds apart to get to the state meet. Coon finished in 7th with a time of 19:23, while DeJong finished in 10th just ten seconds later at 19:33.
The three qualifiers tie for the most qualifiers in school history. The boys’ team will return nine of their top ten runners from this year and the girls will return four of the top five, so there is a bright future for the program.
The state qualifying meet is Saturday, October 31st, at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. Girls’ 3A starts at noon and boys’ 3A starts at 12:30.
