Two teams from the No Coast Network listening area are going to the state girls’ basketball tournament. Montezuma earned a trip to the 1A tournament Monday night (2/18) with a 45-26 win over Sigourney in the Region 5 title game in Williamsburg. Junior Shateah Wetering had 22 points, 9 rebounds, 8 steals and 3 blocked shots for the Bravettes, who are going to state for the second straight year. Montezuma improves to 21-2 on the season; Sigourney ends the year 19-4.
In 1A Region 6, North Mahaska earned a trip to state with a 38-37 win over Seymour at Pleasantville. Seymour had come into the game undefeated and led North Mahaska 21-15 going into the fourth quarter before the Warhawks rallied to win. North Mahaska will take a 15-4 record to State.
The pairings have already been set for the girls’ 1A state basketball tournament. Montezuma is the third seed and will play CAM from Anita a week from Wednesday (2/27) at 6:45pm. North Mahaska is the seventh seed and will take on West Hancock at 5:00 on the 27th. We’ll have both of those games on KBOE-FM.
Also in 1A girls’ basketball Monday, Marquette Catholic defeated Lynnville-Sully for the Region 4 championship 69-62.
