At the state high school wrestling meet on Thursday (2/14), three wrestlers from PCM won their opening round matches in Class 2A: Colby Tool at 145, Wes Cummings at 160 and Jarron Trausch at 170. EBF’s Sage Walker advanced at 170 pounds, Grinnell’s Brock Beck won at 120 and Albia’s Carter Anderson won at 106. In 1A wrestling: Mason Dye of Sigourney-Keota won his first match at 113 to reach the quarerfinals.
Other results from Thursday’s opening day:
3A: Ottumwa’s Vincent Vass lost both matches at 145 lbs.
2A: EBF’s Trestin Sales (126) and Tayton Ricard (132) both lost their first match and won in the consolation round to remain in the competition. And the Rockets’ Jace Smith lost both bouts at 285 lbs.
Grinnell’s Eli Rose (138) and Kamrin Steveson (220) lost both matches and are eliminated.
Chairton’s Reid Walters lost both matches at 195.
PCM’s Landon Fenton (113) was injured in his first match and had to forfeit. He was unable to compete in the consolation round. The Mustangs’ Payton Drake (120) and Lucas Roland (182) both lost their first bouts and then won in the consolation round. And PCM’s Cody Wallace lost both matches at 152.
1A: North Mahaska’s Jarrett Stodghill (145) and Luke Groves (170) both lost their first round matches and later won in the consolation round. The Warhawks’ Michael DeJong lost both matches at 113.
Pekin’s Zach Hammes (138) lost his first match and then won in the consolation round. Teammate Cael Baker lost both matches at 145.
Cardinal-Eldon’s Kade Chance (152) lost his first bout and won in the consolation round, while Dagisteno Shilling (285) lost both bouts.
