Wednesday (2/6) was signing day for high school seniors to sign national letters of intent to play football at the college of their choice. While Division I football has an early signing period in December, this is the traditional signing day…and Division II and III schools, plus junior colleges and NAIA schools are announcing signings today. Case in point: William Penn University has signed three players from Oskaloosa. Offensive tackle Tucker Erwin and receiver Dylan VanLeuven signed their letters of intent today, while offensive lineman and linebacker Riley Miller signed with the Statesmen earlier. Statesmen Coach Todd Hafner talks about signing three Oskaloosa players.
“It’s one of those things want to keep kids local. I feel like we’ve done a good job with what who have. You always target the best players at Osky High and I think that we did that. We did a good job with recruiting the area and it all starts right here in Oskaloosa.”
Another local player who signed with William Penn is Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont quarterback Trey Moore.
“Trey’s a great athlete. We really liked what we saw on film. He’s a fantastic kid; when he came on his visit we really liked what he showed us. We’re excited to have Trey. I think that as athletic as Trey is, he’ll have an opportunity to get on the field fairly soon.”
Oskaloosa running back and linebacker Casey Hill is signing with Grand View today.
