William Penn’s women’s basketball team hosts Missouri Valley Monday night (1/21) at 7 at Penn Gymnasium; it’s Girls and Women in Sports night. The Statesmen women saw their nine game winning streak ended Saturday (1/19) at Evangel 73-65. Shamiah Oliver had 19 points for 19th ranked William Penn, who are now 17-2 overall and 12-2 in the Heart of America Conference.
The Statesmen men had better luck at Evangel, winning 89-87. Abrian Edwards had 30 points for the second ranked Statesmen. William Penn’s men are back in action Thursday night (1/24) at Grand View.
Five William Penn athletes won titles Saturday (1/19) at the Central Athletics Classic in Pella. Kayla Music won two of those: the women’s 60 and 200 meter dashes. On the men’s side, Joel Brown won the long jump, Mofi Alade the high jump and Sage Ehresman the shot put. The Statesmen track teams will compete at the Grinnell Invitational next Saturday (1/26).
And William Penn’s Darquell Pierre finished sixth at 133 pounds at the Missouri Valley Invitational wrestling meet over the weekend. The Statesmen wrestlers are back on the mat Friday night (1/25) for a dual meet at Grand View.
