Oskaloosa’s boys’ basketball team snapped their two game losing streak in a big way Friday night (1/4). The Indians scored a 63-53 win at Indianola….with senior forward Cole Henry sparking the offense. The Northern Iowa recruit had a career high 43 points.
“To be honest with you, I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. I don’t even think half of my points were isolations, they were all…my teammates throwing me amazing passes. I had so many uncontested layups and dunks tonight, it’s not even funny.”
After the game, Oskaloosa Coach Ryan Parker said his team renewed its focus on its big men: Henry, who is 6 foot 10 and Xavier Foster, who is seven feet tall.
“Before Christmas break, we sort of got away from that. We started just shooting the ball and everybody that was open started shooting the ball and shots weren’t falling and we kept shooting and shooting and shooting. Not that we don’t have great shooters on this team, but that’s not necessarily our strength. Our strength is 6’10 and 7′.”
Oskaloosa’s boys are now 8-2 on the season and 4-2 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
In Friday’s girls’ matchup, Indianola defeated Oskaloosa 60-19. Emma Kelderman had five points for Osky, who are now 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the Conference. Oskaloosa’s boys and girls will be off until Friday night (1/11), when they host Pella Christian.
