Oskaloosa’s wrestlers had their first home meet of the season Thursday night (1/3). Unfortunately, Newton won the meet 45-41. Indians Coach Chase Weber said he liked his grapplers’ performance.
“The way our kids wrestled, we’re pretty happy with. As far as showing progress is what we always preach to them, especially those young guys, that’s what we saw. Now, were we on the losing end a few times? Yeah, we want to improve that. But positioning, getting the shot instead of sitting back…. getting off our butt instead of getting put to our back, we saw good stuff.”
Oskaloosa got pinfall wins from Leland Evans at 138 pounds, Wyatt Krier at 152 and Cody Gunn at 160. The Indians’ Keegan Mitts-Butler took a majority decision at 285 pounds, Salvador Gonzalez won a decision at 120 and 113 pounder Phillip Abrahamson won by forfeit. Oskaloosa’s wrestlers will compete in a tournament Saturday in Winterset.
