Starting in March, Oskaloosa residents will be paying more for their sewer bill. Monday night (12/17), the Oskaloosa City Council voted to approve an eight percent rate increase. The average sewer bill would rise almost four dollars from $48.54 a month to $52.42 per month. Oskaloosa Mayor David Krutzfeldt says the main reason for the increase is higher costs.
“There have been some surprises that were different than what the proposals and the projections were two and three years ago. So that’s taking us a little bit by surprise, but we’re also seeing that in reaction to the sewer rate increases and the water rate increases, people are conserving more. And so with less flow going through, we still have to have the same number of dollars.” Krutzfeldt says similar eight percent increases should be expected in coming years.
The Oskaloosa City Council also held a work session prior to Monday’s regular meeting to discuss a 28E agreement with the Oskaloosa School District to build an early childhood and recreation center. The Council will vote on the agreement at their next regular meeting on January 7.
