No one’s perfect. The William Penn men’s and women’s basketball teams both suffered their first loss of the season Saturday (12/1) at MidAmerica Nazarene. The #2 Statesmen men lost 63-61 to 19th ranked MidAmerica Nazarene. William Penn was without injured guard Marlon Alcindor for a third straight game and lost Shamar Bailey-De Coteau in pregame warmups. TaJuan Johnson had 14 points for the Statesmen men, who are now 11-1 overall, 5-1 in the Heart of America Conference.
Meanwhile, the Statesmen women saw their winning streak snapped at 8 after a 72-60 loss at Mid America Nazarene. The Statesmen women made just 32 percent of their shots Saturday. Both Statesmen basketball teams are off until Saturday when they host Peru State.
And how’s this for a first impression? William Penn freshman Kayla Music set a school record in the 60 meter dash Saturday (12/1) at the season-opening Frozen Bee Classic in Davenport. Music won the race in 7.89 seconds. The Statesmen women placed third in the meet. On the mens side, William Penn came in second with three first place finishers: Mofiyinfoluwa Alade tied for first in the high jump, Tristen Elmore won the 200 meters and Sage Ehresman won the shot put.
