Oskaloosa High’s girls’ basketball team opens its season tonight (11/20) when they host Centerville at 6:15. Last year, the Indians didn’t win a game all season. We asked Oskaloosa Coach Jacie White if that’s a sore subject with this year’s team. “No. (laughs) They are definitely focused and they’re hungry. They want more and they know they’re capable. Last year was a lot of just building up their confidence and telling them ‘You are a good team and you’re doing good things.’ And this year I think we’re finally seeing that come to fruition and that they believe it, too. Not just lip service, where they’re saying it. Because last year they would say it. This year, I think they actually believe that they can be in games and they’ve got that confidence that we can be a good team.”
Again, because there’s no junior varsity game, the Oskaloosa/Centerville varsity game will start at 6:15. We’ll have it on KMZN and the No Coast Network with coverage starting at 6.
Other girls’ high school basketball tonight: Pella Christian at Montezuma, Pella at Mount Pleasant, Ottumwa at Fort Madison and EBF at Pleasantville.
Last night in girls’ high school basketball: Washington defeated EBF 47-31 and Southeast Warren over Twin Cedars 26-17
