Montezuma’s volleyball team advanced to the semifinals in the Class 1A, Region 7 tournament Monday night (10/22) with a sweep of North Mahaska. The scores were 25-12, 25-8 and 25-10. Bravettes Coach Katie Dunlap had no complaints.
“It was great to see the girls work really hard at the net. It was fun to see some girls get lots of hits tonight. Shateah averaged about 8 (kills) tonight, so not our best…highest numbers. I think it was more of a serve game tonight. But all around, it was good to see the girls being aggressive at the net.”
Junior Shateah Wetering had 8 kills and 8 blocks for Montezuma as the 7th-ranked Bravettes improve to 28-6 on the year. Montezuma will host Lynnville-Sully Thursday night in the Region 7 semifinals. Kassidi Steel and Paige Layman had three kills apiece for North Mahaska; the Warhawks end the year 12-17.
Also in Class 1 Region 7 volleyball last night, Lynnville-Sully defeated Grand View Christian three sets to one. As we mentioned, Lynnville-Sully plays at Montezuma on Thursday.
In Class 2 Region 5, Pella Christian advanced to the semifinals with a 3-0 sweep over Cardinal. The Eagles play at Pleasantville in the semis on Thursday.
Tonight (10/23) in Class 4A volleyball, Oskaloosa travels to Clear Creek-Amana for a Region 7 semifinal. We’ll have that on KMZN and the No Coast Network. Pregame at 6:45 and the first serve at 7.
