Back to back wins for William Penn’s volleyball team. The Statesmen swept Grinnell last night at Penn Gymnasium, 27-25, 25-21 and 25-23…to improve to 15-5 on the season. Sophomores Nashali Cruz and Alicia Jacquez had nine kills apiece for the Statesmen. The volleyball team gets today off before hosting Mid America Nazarene Friday night and Central Methodist Saturday afternoon.
Another shutout for William Penn’s men’s soccer team. The Statesmen beat fifth ranked Missouri Valley one-nothing last night at Lacey Recreation Complex for their sixth consecutive shutout. Donny Mesina’s 18th minute goal from a corner kick provided the winning margin. Goalkeeper Miguel Barbosa made six saves for his seventh shutout of the year. The Statesmen improve to 3-0 in the Heart of America Conference and 8-1 overall.
On the women’s side, Missouri Valley beat the Statesmen 3-1 last night. Anna Matthew’s 43rd minute goal was too little too late as the Statesmen women fall to 0-3 in the conference and 4-4-1 overall. On Saturday, William Penn’s soccer teams play at Central Methodist.
