Making the play of the game gave William Penn linebacker Jonathan Thomas this week’s Heart of America Conference defensive player of the week honors. In Saturday’s36-35 win at Mid America Nazarene, Thomas stole the ball from Mid America’s quarterback and ran 67 yards for the game winning touchdown. It’s the first conference award for the senior from Americus, Georgia.
Speaking of awards, Elise Warne from the Statesmen women’s golf team received the Heart of America Conference Women’s Golfer of the week award after she won the Briar Cliff Lila Frommelt Classic outside Sioux City over the weekend. It’s the seventh weekly honor the senior from Melbourne, Australia has received in her William Penn career.
And William Penn’s Nashali Cruz is co-winner of this week’s Heart of America Conference’s volleyball attacker of the week award. The sophomore from Bayamon, Puerto Rico had at least ten kills in two of the Statesmen’s four games last week. Cruz and the Statesmen volleyball team will host Culver-Stockton tonight at 7. It will be Beach Night.
