William Penn’s football team got into the win column Saturday with a 42-0 win over Missouri Valley at Lacey Recreation Complex. It’s the Statesmen’s first shutout since 2013. Statesmen Coach Todd Hafner says his team had a great week of preparation for Missouri Valley.
“We changed the personnel, we changed some attitude, we changed a lot of things. Our kids bought in, it was so much fun. I can’t be more proud of a group of guys because we’ve really been through quite a bit. We played two really good teams to start the season, we played a really good team tonight. We showed up, we played with enthusiasm, we played with a lot of heart and guts and toughness couldn’t be more proud.”
Statesmen quarterback Tyler Wood returned from injury to throw for one touchdown and run for another. William Penn also got a touchdown on Detorien Rawlinson’s 27 yard interception return and a 48 yard punt return from Brandon Davis. The 1-2 Statesmen play at Mid-America Nazarene this coming Saturday.
