William Penn opened its football season Saturday with a 49-21 loss at third-ranked Morningside. Sophomore running back Ben Sherman rushed for 69 yards and two touchdowns for the Statesmen. But William Penn starting quarterback Tyler Wood was injured in the second quarter. No word on his status for the Statesmen’s home opener Saturday afternoon against 9th ranked Baker. Saturday’s kickoff is at 2:30 at Lacey Recreation Complex and we’ll have that for you also on KMZN and the No Coast Network.
Speaking of William Penn, the Statesmen’s men’s soccer, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball teams all spent the weekend in Chicago playing at Robert Morris. The men’s soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime; their record now 1-1 on the year. While the Statesmen women played to a scoreless tie with Robert Morris. Both William Penn soccer teams play at Avila on Saturday.
Meanwhile, William Penn’s women’s volleyball team split four games at a tournament at Robert Morris. Next up for the Statesmen spikers is a tournament at Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday.
