Oskaloosa High School’s football team held its annual Old Shoe scrimmage Friday night (8/17). Indians Coach Jake Jenkins gave his thoughts: “I think it’s early. Scrimmages are kind of tough because you have to break the squad, intrasquad scrimmages you have to break up. We kind of went back and forth, offense and defense. It’s kind of what we expected. We expect our guys to play hard. We expected there to be a lot of questions and we expected to be that deer in the headlights look because there were a lot of young guys out playing for the first time on a varsity field. So it’s kind of like we expected, it looked like a scrimmage. There’s a million little things to fix.”
Senior Casey Hill ran for two touchdowns in the scrimmage. Now the Indians get ready for their season opener Friday night at Pella Christian. You can hear that game on KMZN and the No Coast Network; kickoff is at 7.
One more note on Oskaloosa football: junior kicker Aaron Blom has been named to the Des Moines Register’s preseason All-Iowa team. Blom has made 79 of 81 extra points in two varsity seasons, along with making 12 of 21 field goals.
