On this day in 1996, the Texas Rangers retire their 1st number in franchise history, Nolan Ryan’s #34. The Rangers were the second team to retire Ryan’s number, with the California Angles doing it in 1992. The Houston Astros became the third team to retire his number 14 days after the Rangers.

Nolan Ryan is the only major league player to have his number retired by three different teams on which he played, and is one of only nine players to have their number retired by more than on MLB team.

June 1st: On This Day

On this day in 1975, Nolan Ryan pitched his fourth career no-hitter in his 100th career victory. Nolan would throw three more no-hitter games in his career, finishing with seven. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim retired his number, #30, in 1992.

Ryan himself retired in 1993. He left the game a World Series Championship, 8× All-Star nods, being a 2× NL ERA leader, and an 11× Strikeout leader.

Nolan was entered into the Baseball Hall of Fame in  1999 as a first ballot with 98.8% of the votes.
