North Mahaska Girls 1st, Boys 2nd at Iowa Valley

MARENGO – North Mahaska girls finished third overall in a two class track meet at Iowa Valley Monday but reigned supreme in Class B. Williamsburg and PCM scored 183 and 160 respectively, but North Mahaska’s 115 led Class B participants, beating English Valleys by 10 points.

According to results found on Bound, NM won four events including three firsts. Emmerson Jedlicka notched two of the top finishes individually. The Warhawks added five runnerup finishes, a pair of thirds and multiple other finishes. They also scored double in four events to power their way to victory.

Jedlicka won the two distance races taking the 3,000 meters in 11 minutes 45.51 seconds and the 1,500 in 5:26.50. Ava Huffman added a fourth place finish in the 1,500 in 6:10.02. Aly Steil won the 800 meters in 2:34.04. North Mahaska’s 3,200-meter relay team snagged the other first place finish.

Two of the second place finishes also resulted in double placing events. Kieren Perez was second in the 100 meters in 14.02 while teammate Madeline Doonan was sixth in 14.72. Nataliya Linder was second in the long jump with a leap of 15-feet 3.5 inches and Brecklyn Schilling was third with a jump of 14-8.5.

Three relays garnered second place finishes. The 800 meter relay team ran 2:02.87; 1,600 meter relay ran 4:27.59 and the sprint medley finished in 2:03.23. Runners for the relays were not listed in the results.

Linder garnered a third place in the 400 hurdles in 1:14 and Kayla Readshaw was fourth in the 400 meters in 1:07.07. Gracie DeGeest and Addison Terpstra placed fourth and fifth respectively in the 200 meters. DeGeest ran 29.34 while Terpstra finished in 30.0.

Perez added a fifth in the 100 hurdles in 20.32 and Sydney Andersen was fifth in the shot with a put of 33-0. The 400 relay team was fifth in 56.37 and the distance medley ran 5:16.75.

The girls will host the Steve Ehret Relays on Tuesday, April 23. This will be a makeup for last week’s postponed meet.

The North Mahaska boys took to the track at Iowa Valley Tuesday and came away with a second place finish. The host Tigers won the meet. No team scores were available at press time.

The Warhawks captured a pair of first place finishes, six runnerup spots and added seven double placements. In total, NM tallied 23 top eight finishes.

Brayden Veiseth had the lone individual first taking the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes 1 second. Teammate Axel Patterson placed sixth in 5:44.25. Also winning was the distance medley team in 3:56.27. No runners were listed for the relay teams.

Andy Knockel picked up a pair of seconds in the 100 and 200 meters. He covered the 100 in 11.51 and the 200 in 23.22. Trayton Hunolt was eighth in the 200 in 26.54. Veiseth and Nate Sampson ran two-three in the 800 in 2:04.07 and 2:15.65 respectively. Lucas Nunnikhoven ran second in the 400 hurdles and Tyson Ferguson was sixth. Nunnikhoven finished in 59.52 and Ferguson 1:07.53. North Mahaska took second in the 800-meter relay and the 1600 relay.

Sampson and Ferguson grabbed third and fourth in the long jump. Sampson had a leap of 18-feet 11-inches. Ferguson jumped 17-6. Other thirds came in the sprint medley in 1:40.50 and 3,200-meter relay in 9:38.37.

Asher DeBoef took fourth in the 400 meters in 57.88 and the shuttle hurdle relay team finished in 1:13.71.

Max Reed and Clay Thompson had a five-six finish in the 110 hurdles in 17.84 and 19.27 respectively. DeBoef went 5-0 in the high jump to earn a sixth place finish. The 400 relay team was sixth in 48.96.

North Mahaska will run at BGM next Tuesday.
