OSKALOOSA — With the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaching, the Oskaloosa Fire Department would like to invite community members to the Oskaloosa town square on September 11, 2026, for a short commemoration ceremony.

Beginning at 9 a.m., the event will give attendees the opportunity to recognize local first responders, view the temporary display of flags planted by the Oskaloosa High School Student Council, representing the 2,977 individuals who lost their lives on 9/11, and a Musco Mobile truck flying the American flag that flew over Ground Zero.

The brief program will also include comments from Iowa Senator and volunteer firefighter, Adrian Dickey, along with Diane Crookham-Johnson from Musco Lighting and Oskaloosa Fire Chief Scott Vaughan. The program will conclude with a bell ceremony and the playing of “Amazing Grace” on the bag pipes. There will be open areas for attendees to stand, bring a lawn chair, or put down a blanket during the ceremony.
