Grammy Museum Mississippi has announced a new exhibit, called “’80s Rock: The Wildest Decade in Music.”
Sponsored by The Maddox Foundation, the “’80s Rock: The Wildest Decade in Music” exhibit will open to the public on September 26 and feature artifacts and memorabilia from bands who made a huge splash during that decade. The bands/artists include Mötley Crüe, Poison, Skid Row, Warrant, Ratt, Guns N’ Roses, Cinderella, Def Leppard, Lita Ford, Vixen, and more.
Some of the items that will be on display include Ozzy Osbourne’s stage costume, Mötley Crüe’s drum kit, a smashed Guns N’ Roses bass, Def Leppard’s Washburn bass, Lita Ford’s Black Widow guitar, and photographs snapped by acclaimed rock photographer Mark Weiss.
“Not only is this genre of music one of my personal favorites, but the bands who were launching their careers on Sunset Strip during this decade made an impact on young people that has lasted for generations,” Grammy Museum Mississippi executive director Emily Havens said.
An exclusive pre-opening event will be held on September 25 at 6 p.m., featuring a reception and program with stories and conversation from members of Twisted Sister moderated by original MTV VJ Alan Hunter and special guest Mark Weiss.
This event is reserved for exhibit sponsors and Grammy Museum Mississippi members. A limited amount of tickets for members will go on sale at $100 each and are available at grammymuseums.org.
