TOM PETTY 'MAKING OF WILDFLOWERS' DOCUMENTARY TO BE RELEASED ON BLU-RAY

Tom Petty ‘Making Of Wildflowers’ Documentary To Be Released On Blu-Ray

Warner Records is set to release Tom Petty: Somewhere You Feel Free – The Making of Wildflowers on Blu-ray on September 12th.

The Mary Wharton-directed documentary, originally released in 2021, narrates the creation of Tom Petty’s iconic 1994 album, Wildflowers.

The film uses never-before-seen 16mm footage from 1993-1995, when Petty was working on the album, along with present-day interviews with his bandmates and producer Rick Rubin. Interviews with Rubin, Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell, Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench, Petty’s daughter Adria and many more are featured in the about 90-minute film.

The Blu-ray format will include 30 minutes of bonus content, including outtakes and four music videos.

The film, which premiered as an Official SXSW 2021 Selection, won the Audience Award, and later had a limited theatrical release worldwide on October 20, 2021, coinciding with Petty’s birthday.

The Wildflowers album, which arrived in 1994, was certified triple platinum nine months after its release. Petty cut down the number of tracks to 15 from 25, as Warner Brothers feared the album would be too expensive to sell at the time, likely doubling the cost of a single CD.

Later, in the fall of 2020, Warner released Wildflowers & All The Rest, featuring the complete recording sessions, live tracks, demos, and alternate versions. Petty’s daughters, Adria and Annakim Petty and his wife Dana Petty curated the compilation.
