Southern Iowa Speedway Crowns Track Champions

By Jerry Mackey

OSKALOOSA — The Mahaska Season Championships were run on Wednesday night wrapping up the Wednesday night portion of the 2025 season at the Mahaska County monster ½ mile dirt track located on the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds. In addition to the Mahaska Season Championships being run the track champions were crowned in all five classes.

In the Mid States Machine Stock Cars it was Hedrick’s Dustin Griffiths starting off what turned out to be a fantastic night for the 10G race team. Mike Hughes led the main event in the early going before Maguire DeJong took over the top spot. Griffiths advanced from a sixth position start and set up a three lap battle that saw DeJong and Griffiths race side by side with neither talented driver able to secure the race lead. Griffiths was able to finally take control of the race and sail on to the win. DeJong took second over a fast closing Nathan Wood. With the win, Griffiths nailed down yet another track Season Championship point title in the Mid States Machine Stock Cars.

The final Wednesday night race of the 2025 Season was the Parker Tree Service Hobby Stock A Feature. Dustin Griffiths has had the car to beat all year in the Hobby Stocks and he again flexed his muscle on Wednesday night by easily racing into the lead from his third row start and cruised to an easy win over Keaton Gordon and Kris Walker. The night concluded with Griffiths earning two Track Championships as he easily captured the Parker Tree Service Hobby Stock Championship.

In the Oskaloosa Quality Rentals Sportmods the Mahaska Season Championship it was a battle early between the two of New Sharon’s finest. Colton Livezey was leading Kyle Harwood until an engine failure sidelined the 15K of Harwood. Livezey went on to record the win by holding off a strong late race charge by Cole VanDerwal. Harwood came into the night with a big enough lead in track points to secure his second consecutive Track Championship ion the Sportmod class.

The Stout Trucking Sport Compacts took the green with Seth Meinders holding an 8 point advantage in track points over Katelynn Watts. Meinders put an exclamation point on the night by winning the Mahaska Season Championship race and securing the Track Championship. Michael Gardner ran second to Meinders with Clayton Webster taking third ahead of Watts.

Ben Woods took the Tharp Enterprises NAPA Stores feature win in the Non Wing Sprinters and by virtue of a strong second place run, Tyler Graves scored the Season Point Championship.

The next event at the Southern Iowa Speedway will be Terry McCarl’s Front Row Challenge which is to be contested on Monday, August 4th. Many of the country’s top 410 Sprint Car drivers will be on hand gunning for the $21,000 first place prize money.
