OSKALOOSA — The Southern Iowa Speedway hosted the 2025 Season opening night’s racing action on Wednesday night with the races being sponsored by long time partner KBOE Radio. The race program was run as quickly as possible with rain moving towards the Mahaska County Fairgrounds. All heats and two features were completed before the rains moved in forcing postponement of the remainder of the night.
Wednesday, May 7th will be DeJong Manufacturing free popcorn night at the races and the race program will feature lots of racing with the Stock Car Feature being concluded first. The Stock Cars completed four of the 14 laps and will line up as they were running and will run their final ten laps. Up next will be the Sportmod and Hobby Stock Features. Drivers that were not in attendance on Wednesday night will be allowed to race, they will sign in and start behind the cars that were in attendance on Wednesday night. This will make for 7 feature events plus Free Popcorn for the regular low Southern Iowa Speedway admission price. The Non-Wing Sprint Cars will have the night off due to all the races planned for May 7th.
The Stout Trucking Sport Compacts wee able to run their entire show on Wednesday night and the opening night feature was decided on the final lap with the two leaders racing off turn four to the checkers side by side. Brandon Pickney and Seth Meinders had swapped the lead several times setting up the last lap dash to the finish. The two actually made contact coming off of turn four but both were able to maintain control with Pickney scoring the win by ½ a car length at the finish line. Clayton Webster followed Meinders under the checkers in third.
A.J. Johnson had a perfect season in 2024 at the Southern Iowa Speedway in the Non-Wing Sprint cars. The Oskaloosa native added another feature win to his credit on Wednesday night by chasing down race leader Terry Doud and making the winning pass on lap five of the ten lap feature. Tyler Grave too third in the main event.
Wednesday, May 7th the race program will get underway with hot laps taking to the Mahaska County Monster at 7:15 with racing to follow.
