Warhawks Open Track Season at Lynnville-Sully

SULLY – North Mahaska’s track teams hit the oval and fields Tuesday at the Lynnville-Sully Hawk Co-ed meet. The girls placed fourth with 103 and the boys finished eighth with 32 points.

Emmerson Jedlicka was a double winner and set a meet record in the 1,500 meters. Jedlicka broke the meet record held by former Warhawk runner Cheyenne Shaw from 2019. Jedlicka knocked two seconds off the mark winning in 5 minutes 28.55 seconds. Shaw’s six-year-old record was 5:30.70. Jedlicka also won the 3,000 meters in 11:28.61. 

Nataliya Linder added first place in the long jump with a leap of 16-feet, 2.75 inches.

The girls took runnerup spots in the 3,200-relay, 800 relay, 100 meters and 100-meter hurdles. Allie Veiseth, Amber Knockel, Abby Van Weelden and Ava Huffman was second in the 3,200 in 11:17.24. Addison Terpstra, Olivia Ridgeway, Alivia Schock and Linder ran the 800-relay in 1:58.29. 

Kieren Perez took second in the 100 in 13.43 with Linder in fifth in 14.19, then Perez was runner up in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.06. Huffman was the lone third place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:42.20. Van Weelden was eighth in the event in 3:00.93.

For the boys, Jeb Goemaat had the best finish taking fourth in the 400 meters in 57.50. Tyson Ferguson took the lone fifth place individual in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.53. 

The sprint medley team of William Cox, Jackson Doak, Charlie Goemaat and Jeb Goemaat was fifth in 1:46.15. C. Goemaat, Max Reed, Ferguson and Doak ran fifth in the shuttle hurdle in 1:11.61.

Both teams will be in action Thursday when they host their own invitational. Field events will begin at 4:15 p.m. with running events commencing at 4:45 p.m.
