On Friday, The Cure returned with their first new album in 16 years, Songs of a Lost World.
The fourteenth studio album by the Cure, all the songs on the 14-track Songs of a Lost World were composed solely by its frontman Robert Smith.
The singer/guitarist described the album’s lead single, “Alone,” released in September, as “the song that unlocked the record.”
It is also their first studio album to feature Reeves Gabrels, having been a touring member since 2012, replacing Pearl Thompson, although previously Gabrels already featured on 1997’s single “Wrong Number.”
Songs of a Lost World was several years in the making, and was originally intended for release in 2019.
Five of the album’s songs were performed live in 2022 and 2023 during the Cure’s Shows of a Lost World tour.
Songs of a Lost World is available on all major streaming platforms and in various formats, including standard LP, double LP, exclusive indie-store colored vinyl, CD, deluxe CD with Blu-ray, and digital edition.
The last time the English rock band released an album was in 2008, 4:13 Dream.
