Rhino’s brand new collection of high-quality quadraphonic releases contains albums from Foghat and Jefferson Starship among others.
Foghat’s Energized, and Jefferson Starship’s Dragonfly along with The J. Geils Band’s Bloodshot (1973) and The Doobie Brothers’ Toulouse Street (1972), have now been digitalized and preserved from their original analog four-track Quad mixes.
These are now available as Blu-ray discs with a quadraphonic and 192/24 stereo mix. Currently exclusive to Rhino.com and select Warner Music Group stores worldwide, each title retails for $24.98, with a bundle of all four available for $79.98.
Quadraphonic sound, or 4.0 surround sound, utilizes four audio channels connected to four speakers positioned at the corners of a listening space. The multi-tracked audio is mixed dimensional, immersing the listener in an expansive soundscape.
Energized, featuring hits such as “Honey Hush” and “That’ll Be The Day,” arrived on January 6, 1974 and reached the Top 40 of the Billboard 200. It garnered a Gold certification from the RIAA.
Jefferson Starship’s Dragonfly, which dropped in October 1974, contained hit tunes such as “Ride The Tiger” and “Hyperdrive.” The record peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard 200.
