OSKALOOSA — Wednesday night was Schools Out for Summer sponsored by our friends, Stout Trucking and Van Utrecht Farms and Trucking. Kids were treated to bounce houses before the races and over 20 new bicycles and scooters went home with youngsters in attendance.
The Oskaloosa Quality Rentals Sportmods had a new driver make his first ever visit to victory lane following their main event. Kyle Harwood has multiple Stock Car wins to his credit but Wednesday night was the first time the New Sharon driver was able to top the Sportmod division.
Will Wolf crossed under the checkers in third on Wednesday night.
The Gas Man, Cayden Carter has only raced at his hometown track twice in 2024 and both time he has taken the checkers first in the Mid States Machine Stock Cars. Carter led the main event flag to flag and held off a fast closing Nathan Wood for the win. Wood started the main event in the fourth position and following a quick departure by front row starter Dustin Griffiths due to a mechanical failure, Wood shot into second. Wood was very fast the last few laps but he was not able to mount a serious challenge to the very strong Carter. Maguire DeJong drove his new VanderBuilt Stock car to third place finish for the second week in a row.
The final race of the night was the Parker Tree Service Hobby Stocks and the drivers put on a great race despite the undefeated Dustin Griffiths in the pit area with a disabled car. The Bounty on Griffiths will remain in tact and will be up for grabs next week. Brayden Wood in his sixth night in a race car looked to be a very serious contender for a win which would have been very popular for the 16 year old Sigourney driver. Wood led the first 8 laps holding off Kolby Sabin and Eric Stanton. Sabin in his rookie year in the Stock Cars slipped by Wood and he looked to be a strong candidate for a first ever Stock Car win at the Mahaska County Monster. Coming to the white flag Eric Stanton was able to move around Sabin. One last charge by Sabin came up just short at the checkers as Stanton took a ½ a car length win over Sabin with Wood finishing a very close third.
The Dirt N Asphalt Sport Compacts continue put on very close racing at the big track. Wednesday night it was Nathan Moody scoring his second win of the season. Moody swapped the lead back and for with Seth Meinders and Brandon Pickney. All three led multiple laps. At the finish line it was Moody taking the win just ahead of Meinders with Pickney coming home third.
The NAPA Stores of Albia Non Wing Sprints continues to be the AJ Johnson show. Johnson remained undefeated at the Southern Iowa Speedway in 2024 by taking the main event win ahead of Mike Mayberry and Tyler Graves.
Wednesday, June 19th will be Nutrien Ag Hall of Fame Induction night at the races. The 2024 class of inductees will include Howard Gordon Jr., Gary Morse, Jake Hughes and Roger Dolan. We will hold out Induction ceremony on the front chute during intermission as we honor our new inductees.
Hot laps will take to the track at 7:15 pm with racing to follow.
