NEW SHARON – North Mahaska found the Keota Eagles a tough out Monday as the Warhawks enter the final week of the regular season. NM hosted the Eagles and had to hold off rallies to win 25-18, 25-15, 25-23.
Game one was a scene for what was to come for the Warhawks. The two teams battled to a 10-10 tie when Abby Van Weelden stepped to the service line and sparked a run including an ace as NM (14-7) led 17-10. The teams traded points and NM led 24-16. Keota (7-11) scored a pair of points, but a missed serve into the net gave the Warhawks the opening set win.
North Mahaska broke a 1-1 tie and Regan Grewe hit an ace to get the Warhawks going in the second set. Five out or net serves propelled NM and the set ended on a hitting error by the Eagles.
Set three saw the teams tied three times and Keota led 23-22. North Mahaska earned the sideout and was able to knock down a pair of points for the match victory.
Unofficially, North Mahaska had 24 kills on the night. The Warhawks were led by Grewe with nine kills. Sydney Andersen and Kayla Readshaw each had four. Five players recorded aces for NM and three had blocks.
North Mahaska returns to action Tuesday when they host Colfax-Mingo for senior night. They will close out the South Iowa Cedar League season Thursday at English Valleys and wrap up the regular season Saturday at the Oskaloosa tournament.
