THE MONKEES' MICKY DOLENZ SHARES 'SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE' FROM R.E.M. COVERS EP

The Monkees’ Micky Dolenz Shares ‘Shiny Happy People’ From R.E.M. Covers EP

Micky Dolenz, the last surviving member of The Monkees, recently shared “Shiny Happy People” from his upcoming R.E.M. covers EP.

Dolenz Sings R.E.M., an upcoming tribute EP by the Monkees rocker, is due on November 3 via 7A Records.

“Once again, this EP reaffirms my long-held conviction that a solid recording always begins with solid material,” Dolenz says in a statement accompanying the single. “You don’t get much more solid than R.E.M. What a joy to sing these classics and honor a team of outstanding writers.”

“Shiny Happy People” is the second single from R.E.M.’s seventh studio album, Out of Time (1991). It features guest vocals by Kate Pierson of the B-52’s, who also appears in the music video.

The song reached No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, the fourth and last R.E.M. single to reach the top 10.

Dolenz also covers the band’s 1981 debut single “Radio Free Europe,” their 1992 hit “Man on the Moon,” and the 2004 deep cut “Leaving New York.”
