OSKALOOSA — The Southern Iowa Speedway hosted the Southern Iowa Speedway Hall of Fame Induction night on Wednesday night sponsored by Mahaska. 5 individuals, who are all a very important part of the history of the Southern Iowa Speedway were inducted. Drivers, Steve Jackson, Bob Maschmann, Jim Hughes and Brad Pinkerton along with media specialist Bill Haglund were all inducted into the prestigious Southern Iowa Speedway Hall of Fame.
The Mid States Machine Stock Car feature saw Nathan Wood make his return to the SIS victory lane. Wood started in the fourth position and quickly shot to the front taking the lead away from Dustin Griffiths. Wood would go on to score the win ahead of sixth starting Cayden Carter. Jason McDaniel ran up front all race long before crossing under the checkers in third ahead of Travis Bunnell.
17 drivers took the green for their 14 lap feature in the Parker Tree Service Hobby Stock division. Tyson Overton scored his first win of the season at the Mahaska County Monster. Overton held off a late race race charge by Oskaloosa’s hottest hobby Stock driver, Dustin Griffiths. Overton and Griffiths touched briefly as they battled on the white flag lap when Griffiths was scored the leader. Overton was able to regain the lead on the back chute and go on to score the win ahead of Griffiths and Austin Barnes.
Maguire DeJong dominated the Oskaloosa Quality Rentals Sportmod 14 lap feature on Wednesday night. DeJong took command form the pole position and went on to lead flag to flag in scoring he win ahead of Curtis VanDerWal and Colton Livezey.
The Dirt N Asphalt Sport Compacts ran their feature event flag to flag as well with James Haring picking up another feature win. Haring battled early with Brandon Pickney before moving out to a comfortable lead. Pickney followed Haring across the finish line in second ahead of Bob Hayes.
The Clow Valve Company non wing sprinters had a tough night on Wednesday night as three drivers went for wild rides. Tim Folkerts flipped in the heat race, Ben Woods and Jonathan Hughes both were involved in an incident in the main event that sent both upside down into the turn three fence. All three drivers walked away from the crashes unharmed. When the checkers flew it was Doug Sylvester taking the win ahead of Nathan James.
The Southern Iowa Speedway will be off on July 5th, the next race will be Kids night on the 12th of July, all kids under 15 will be admitted free, must be accompanied by a paid adult. The kids will be given race car rides before the races. Hot laps will get underway at 7:15 pm.
