OTTUMWA — The remains of a U.S. Army Corporal from the Ottumwa area who died as a prisoner of war during the Korean conflict were recently identified and will be returned to Iowa for burial.  Corporal Delbert Lloyd White was drafted to the Korean War, where on December 1, 1950, he was captured by enemy forces and marched to a prison camp in North Korea.  In March 1951, he died of malnutrition at the age of 20.  White’s remains were among 38 returned in a postwar exchange that could not be identified and were buried as “Unknowns” at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu in 1956.  White has been missing for 72 years.  His remains will be transported to Ottumwa, Iowa, where his funeral will be held this Friday, June 16^th, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at Reece Funeral Home.
