Oskaloosa athletes did well at the State High School Track Meet in Des Moines that ended Saturday (5/21). Faith DeRonde placed second in the Class 3A girls’ shot put with a school record throw of 43 feet, 4 and ¾ inches. The Indians’ Maleah Walker was sixth in the 200, slicing one-one hundredth of a second off her school record, which is now 25.95 seconds. Walker was also eighth in the 100 and eighth in the long jump. Jordan Czerwinski was 11th in the girls’ 400 hurdles, Hannah Quang was 22nd in the 100 hurdles.
For the Osky boys, Tatum Westercamp was 16th in the 3A 110 hurdles, Waylon Bolibaugh 18th in the 400 hurdles and the Indians’ distance medley relay team of Tatum Westercamp, Colin Snitker, Waylon Bolibaugh and Patrick DeRonde was 13th. Patrick was also tenth in the 1600.
In the 3A team competition, Pella was second and Newton third. Newton’s Jackson Mace-Maynard was second in the 800 meters and third in the 1600. Pella won the shuttle hurdle relay, with Pella’s Nolan Clayberg fourth in the 110 hurdles and teammate Gage Huyser sixth. In 3A girls, Addisyn Terpstra of Newton won the 100 hurdles.
In Class 2A, EBF’s girls were fifth in the 4 by 400 relay; Pella Christian was second in the 2A boys sprint medley relay….and the Eagles’ Levi Schelhaus was second in the 400 meters and fifth in the 200.
In Class 1A, Lynnville-Sully’s boys won the 4 by 200 relay, placed third in the 4 by 400 and the Hawks’ James Gruver was fourth in the 400 hurdles.
