Disney+ has won the rights to a new documentary on Elton John, titled Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: The Final Elton John Performances and The Years That Made His Legend.
The documentary, directed by R.J. Cutler and produced by John’s husband and manager David Furnish, features unseen concert footage from the legendary musician’s past 50 years, a special look at the first five years of John’s career, modern-day footage of John and his family, and a look at his hand-written journals.
“Elton and I could not think of a better collaborator than R.J. Cutler for a film that represents more than just Elton’s career — it’s his life,” Furnish said in a statement. “From the Troubadour to Dodger Stadium, we knew that R.J. would help guide Elton’s story and its many layers in a way that feels authentic and evocative.”
The documentary will be screened only in a limited number of theatres and film festivals ahead of its release on Disney+.
